Maredsous Bruin (aka 8)

Today's offering is a dark abbey beer

Appearance:

Dark ruby red with a off white head large head

Aroma:

Slightly sour sultana with coffee and chocolate undertones

Taste:

Starts like a coca powder, chocolate but not sweet then a sweetness comes in very vinous followed by some hop bitterness. The finish is coffee/chocolate interwoven with some background vinous sweetness underpinned by firm hoppy bitterness with a hint of alcohol warmth

Overall:

Very nice abbey beer the chocolate flavour makes it very unusual. I would pick this above the Rochefort I had yesterday. However I do think there are better abbey beers out there.

8.0/10
