Inedit Damn

This is a brewery I have not gone for till now due to the price but my friend Mez and Greg brought me one for Xmas

Appearance

Hazy pale straw little head

Aroma

Low smell touch of Orange peel and malt

Taste

Touch of spice and orange peel which malt coming through later, the taste is a bit thin. The finish is bitter but soon fades.

Overall

not a fan, like a watered down hoegaarden 6/10

Robinson's Unicorn

High hopes for this one given old tom

Appearance

Light chestnut with large slightly off white head

Aroma

Rich malt with a touch of vinous fruit

Taste

Bitter hops at first then honey taste without the sweetness, a bit too much carbonation. The finish is slightly bitter and drying and moreish.

Overall

Excellent bitter 8/10

Caesar Augustus lager IPA hybrid

Odd one today

Appearance

Pale straw colour with large white head

Aroma

Floral hops almost like lychee or elderflower

Taste

Very bitter at first with floral nature coming through later and a hint of malt. The finish is very bitter and drying.

overall

kind of works reminds me of little creatures but could be better balanced

Bosteel's Deus Brut de Flanders 0

Today's offering courtesy of my friends Pip and Barthoz.

Appearance

Pale straw with lots of carbonation and large white staying head.

Aroma

lot of citrus hops with touch of floral hops backed by grain rather than malt aroma.

Taste

Fills the mouth with malt than citrus hops come quickly to the fore. Great depth of flavour. Touch of pine comes through then warming alcohol than an almost ammonia tang with a sweetness. the finish is creamy malt and floral hops.

Overall

Very nice complex beer although they say serve at 2-4c which I'd say is to cold. 9/10

Hobson's Goldings green hop beer

This one use half a day fresh hops and is brewed in my "home" town.

Appearance

Very light pale slightly cloudy straw colour

Aroma

Fresh cut grass with touch of pepper and bitterness at the end.

Taste

Starts bitter which fades and a lovely creamy malt comes to the fore. Then the hops are back drying and bitter that leaves the finish which is refreshing.

Overall

Although seasonal only in September would be a great beer for the summer. let's see if I can keep some for then

Courage Imperial Russian Stout

Today's offering with the windy rainy weather should be a good one.

Appearance

Dark black seems to suck in light, like the one of the spacecraft in hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, with small tan head.

Aroma

Slightly burnt malt rich vinous fruits with spice and a woody earthness.

Taste

Like a taste time bomb nothing happens then bam, touch of coffee in the malt intense hops warming alcohol and a finish that lasts for an ages bitter hops Smokey malt.

overall

lovely beer to sip a beer to saviour

cloudy bronze with small white head

Aroma

Yeasty at first with a touch of honey sweetness and a hint of hops

Taste

Bitter hops dominant with not much malt flavour limited finish but hop dominated.

Gruut bruin

Appearance

Ruby chestnut with small tan head

Aroma

Oat and chocolate roasted grains with a bit of pepper and malt

Taste

Rich round malt with a touch of burnt grains spices and blood orange (as the book said but I did not believe). The finish is dry and taste like monkey nuts.

Overall

Great winter beer warming and usual hunt it out.

Lindeboom Pilsener

Today's offering is a Dutch pils.

Appearance

Light pale gold with small head

Aroma

Dominated by malt with a touch of cut grass

Taste

At first it has citrus and herbal taste and the very bitter hops take over with hints of tart fruit coming stronger as time goes on. The finish is drying and bitter and a touch musty with a hint of citrus.

Overall

Being in the Netherlands albeit the randstad this beer is not so available but it is a refreshing pils. Worth a try rather than the ubiquitous Dutch plus.

Brugse zot dubbel

A widely available Belgium beer

Appearance

Looks like an English bitter dark chestnut with large off white head.

Aroma

Hoppy with dark sugar and malt coming to the fore at to the end.

Taste

Rich malt and cane sugar without the sweetness as the hops come in very strong. The finish is drying and bitter hops with just enough sweetness to make you sip more.

Overall

Not over complex but does what it does well 7.5/10

Tunbridge Hall Imperial Raspberry Stout

Today I will do another Beer review something I have been neglecting.

Appearance

Dark brown with large tan head

Aroma

Chocolate and raspberry are the dominant smells with a hint of dark malt

Taste

Very tart raspberry dominant the flavours just a touch of malt. The finish is long and strong with the raspberry slowly fading with bitterness remaining.

Overall

To one dimensional for me to like

The great big Kentucky sausage fest (Amager)

Appearance

Dark chestnut with large tan head

Aroma

Very hoppy with a floral nature with chocolate in the background and hint of garabaldi biscuits

Taste

Sweet malt with chocolate at first which is swamped by hops and a rich maltiness. The finish is increasingly bitter with a touch of burn from the booze.

Overall

Really like this beer big flavours but with enough complexity to enjoy 8/10

Victory and Brewdog U-Boat

A smoked porter form Brewdog and Victory brewing company, not a brewery I know.

Appearance

Dark black, light barely passes shows a cloudy dark red brown.

Aroma

Smoked chocolate is the aroma with a hint of black treacle

Taste

Rich sweet malt at first then the smoke comes in but is not overpowering. The finish is bitter (in comparison) and Smokey with a lovely warmth of the amount of alcohol.

Overall

Lovely subtle imperial porter, does what it claims. 8/10

Willke Tripel

Today's offering is courtesy of my friends Kees and Marije.

Apperance

Very cloudy light brown with small lasting white head.

Aroma
Very hoppy at first and then caramel / toffee comes through.

Taste
Hoppy floral notes with biscuit malt to balance with a touch of nettles and elderflower. The finish is slight bitter and caramel.

Overall

Note really a trippel in taste but a lovely easy drinking beer.

Spicy malt hot cross bun like, think Dortmunder

Taste

Spicy yeasty hot cross buns with dark sweetness like a dubbel. The finish is sweet and spicy

Overall

Lovelly Dortmunder style beer very quaffable

Rouge Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout

An American Stout tonite

Appearance

Dark chestnut with tan non lasting head.

Aroma

Hint of dark chocolate with earthquakes

Appearance

Earthyness of malt oat with a hint of chocolate the aftertaste is bitter earthy hops

Overall

Not a good one, nothing special nice enough but no stand out 6.5/10

Rouge Russian Imperial Stout

Appearance

Dark blackish brown with small tan head

Aroma

Dark Vineous fruits black treacle and molasses mixed with a sharpness of alcohol

Taste

Enveloping rich malt with dark treacle which fades as more bitter coco powder and coffee grounds come over. The finish is warming as the bitterness fades the rich molasses malt comes back to the for.

Overall

good Russian Imperial Stout full bodied and enveloping

Unibroue Maudite

Appearance

not so nice no head light cloudy brown, think puddle water. ....

Aroma

Gingerbread dough with a touch of biscuit malt.

Taste

Spicy malt with thoughts of speculoos in my mind fades to finish but a touch of bitter hops. Slightly disappointing.

Unibroue Blanche De Chambly

A Canadian white beer is tonite offering

Appearance

Cloudy light straw with large white head

Aroma

Slight smell of over ripe bananas with touch of orange acidity

Taste

Creamy malt that has the bananas taste and slightly coriander taste which fades to tangy citrus finish with a touch of bitterness of hops

Overall

Nice enough but I like the non spiced wheat beers. Comparing like for like I slightly prefer hoegaarden.

Daleside Morocco Ale

Appearance

Dark ruby red with little head

Aroma

Spicy dough think hot cross buns

Taste

Rich malt and vinous fruits with slight spiciness. The finish is bread like dough with a hint of bitter hops and malt loaf.

Overall

Very quaffable beer the close to a Germany Dortmunder style could drink a few of these.

Mikkeller Texas Ranger

Today offering is danish and has a whole long list of ingredients: almond milk, cocoa, chili, black beans and avocado leaves.

Appearance

Black with a dark tan head

Aroma

Coco powder and chili hit the nose first with a touch of malt.

Taste

Starts with a hit of coco powder bitter and dark, the a more floral taste is hinted at but is replace by first chili. The finish is bitter drying with the chili heat in the background.

Overall

Despite what I thought would be to much ingredients. this is a nice beer. That said others have done more with less. 8/10

This was a lively bottle.

Appearance

Straw gold with slight of white head.

Aroma

Light smell only touch of malt and hint of hops

Taste

Biscuit like malt underpinned by peppery hops. The finish is drying and bitter just keeping some malt in the back ground.

Overall

underwhelming not special in my eyes like a poor Dortmunder

Pinkus Munster Alt.

An all organic German beer is the 1st beer today.

Appearance

Pale gold with white creamy head

Aroma

spicy dough with hint of sourness thing sour dough hot cross buns.

Taste

The initial flavour is spiced dough and then a large amount of carbonation appears followed by sour acidity. The finish is all sour dough and is not strong or long.

Overall

Disappointed with this not worth trying.

Oakney Brewery, Skull spliter

Appearance

Mid chestnut with tan head

Aroma

spicy figs like Christmas with rich malt and Vineous fruits.

Taste

Sweet very sweet at first with molasses and figs being the predominant flavour. The finish is spicy with that fig sweetness and warming alcohol.

Overall

Would be great at Christmas I like this beer. 8.5/10

Great lakes Dortmunder Gold

Another American tonite

Appearance

old gold think wolves shirt with slightly off white lasting head.

Aroma

Malty like bread dough and grain at the end.

Taste

Biscuit malt dominates the initial taste then some bitterness comes in from the hops and some tangyness. The finish is surprisingly bitter and Moorish.

Overall

A style I like and as good as the Germany's maybe not as good as my favorite Dortmund but close.

Darwin Original Flag Porter

Appearance

Dark chestnut with tan head

Aroma

Coco powder and vineous fruit.

Taste

coco powder and may be sultanas but not much else

Overall

Strangely disappointed very one dimensional.

Full Sail Amber

Another American Amber

Appearance

Dark chestnut with a touch of ruby and small tan head.

Aroma

Rich meatloaf with a definite hint of currents

Taste

rich malt loaf which fades as bitter hops come in. The finish is bitter hops with a touch of burnt sugar and malt.

Overall

More bitter finish than the alaskan and slightly better for it 7.5/10

Appearance

Very Dark ruby red with off white tan head

Aroma

Dark Vineous fruits, bitter dark chocolate with a hint of coffee grounds and a touch of sweetness

Taste

Dark bitter chocolate with burnt sugar which is just tempered by malt. The malt fades leaving a burnt bitterness.

Overall

It is a beer to put hair on your chest would be nice latter in the year

Alaskan Amber

Today offering is an america beer

Appearance

Ruby chestnut with large slightly off white head

Aroma

Rich biscuit malt with a hint of hops but still sweet

Taste

Rich malt and dark sugar like a lighter belgium dubbel. The finish gets more bitter with the malt fading to a nice hippy bitterness. Quite Moorish

Overall

A nice beer but not overly special.

Slight substitution as could not find regular IPA in the Netherlands

Appearance

Surprisingly black with large tan head

Aroma

Big hit of floral hops with a touch of malt.

Taste

Bitter hops with dark bitter chocolate malt. The finish is all bitter hops and long.

Overall

A modern IPA nice enough but not special.

Mohrenbrau Kellerbier

This is a present from my friends Kees and Marije's holiday in Austria.

Appearance

Cloudy gold orange with large white head

Aroma

Very malty smell, reminds me of visiting single malt distillery which malt there own grain. A maybe a touch of earth hops.

Taste

Malt almost like an alcohol free beer that his creamy then the hops come in with earthy and light pepper and floral tones a touch of heat from the alcohol. The finish is bitter but dominated by malt. The finish is not strong and not that long.

Overall

Quite unexpected very different beer than I had before very like a wheat beer but some how different, no bananas but floral and earthy tastes.

Surprisingly Amber with white head creamy

Aroma

Malt with a touch of hops

Taste

Creamy malt balanced by enough hops to balance but not to overpower and just the right sweetness for an amber. Finish gets more bitter but still wall balanced and morish 7/10

Gentse Gruut Amber

Today's beer has no hops

Appearance

Ruby chestnut with lasting white head

Aroma

Rich malt and spicy raisins and earthy nuts

Taste

Blood oranges malt with a harsh bitterness for balance. The finish is long with fennel nutty malt and a hint of monkey nuts

Overall

Who needs hops anyway a bit unsubtle but very quaffable.

St Bernardus Tripel

Appearance

Hazy old gold with bid white head

Aroma

Slightly herby with spicy hops touch of malt and dried fruit

Taste

Rich malt with a touch of fruit, like a fruit cake. The malt is very creamy and just when you think it might be to much the bitter spicy hops kick in to balance it, The finish is long warm ripe fruit that creamy malt and spicy hops.

Overall

Another fine beer if you like your tripels this is one of the best.

St Bernardus Abt 12

Appearance

Dark ruby chestnut, slightly cloudy with large khaki head.

Aroma

Vineous fruits with underpinnings of bread like malt touch of pepper and chocolate.

Taste

Rich malt with candy sugar hint of burnt grains finally a touch of liquorice. The finish is warming slightly nutty and a bit of peppery hops.

Overall

lovely beer should try a blind tasting with westvleteren maybe not so complex in the taste but a fine beer

Flying Dog Kujo Imperial Coffee Stout

Time to suffer for my art, as I hate coffee

Apperance

As black as night small amount of brown head

Aroma

Black treacle, dark chocolate and hint of coffee grounds

Taste

The dark treacle comes first then dark vine fruits and malt no coffee until the finish which is warmth from the alcohol and then the coffee comes in but a stewed coffee taste not good in my opinion.

Overall

I still hate coffee so I did not score this one

Duvel Tripel Hop 2014

A limited edition that is made every year.....

Appearance

Pale hazy gold large white lasting head

Aroma

Citrus hops underpinned by subtle malt

Taste

Citrus hops at first the light biscuit malt comes in to balance. The finish is bitter citrus hops which becomes more peppery along with a pleasant warm due to the abv.

Overall

A nice but different duval, taste like an America IPA but with more alcohol. 8/10

Timmermans Traditional Gueuze Lambicus

Today offering is a limbic, not a style I have drunk in a while.

Appearance

Golden brown with small white head that stay longer than I was expecting.

Aroma

Wet hay, scrumpy cider and carrots and cane sugar

Taste

Starts very acidic which fades as the sweetness come in to leave very tart apples. Finish is apples which slowly get sweeter. very refreshing

Overall

More like a cider than beer but a nice change from the norm. 7/10

Rogue Ales Brutal India Pale Ale

An American beer today

Appearance

Clear old gold lasting white head

Aroma

Hops, Hops and floral Hops

Taste

Still hops floral but smooth and surprisingly sweet was expecting much bitter taste pleasant carbonation. Finish is quiet subtle slowly building bitterness.

Overall

Pleasent quaffable nice carbonation but bit simple taste 6/10

Today is not in the book as it is a new beer from this brewery

Appearance

Slightly hazy harvest yellow with white lasting head

Aroma

Malt floral hop and honey

Taste

Strong carbonation with rich malt and floral sweetness which fade as very bitter hops come in. The finish is dry and very bitter but soon fades as the malt comes back.

Overall

Not so impressed over carbonated and no subtle 5/10

Brakspear's Oxford Gold

Appearance

Touch of haze in a golden bronze beer with slight off white small but persistent head

Aroma

Malt with a touch of orange and hint of hops

Taste

Firstly Malt then an orange floral taste come to the fore which fade to slight bitter hops. The is a balance of the hops and orange eventually leaving bitter semi drying hops making it Moorish.

Overall

Nice bitter but not stand out 7/10

Appearance

Dark hazy ruby chestnut with large off white lasting head

Aroma

Burnt grain with raisins and a touch of Terry 's dark chocolate orange

Taste

Bitter chocolate and burnt malt slowly building bitter hops.The finish is very long bitter at first with slight heat of alcohol and peppery hops come in all underpinned by dark chocolate.

Overall

Maybe more for Autumn but a fine beer which has big flavour and complexity. 8.5/10

Shepherd Neame's 1698

Appearance

Auburn with lasting off white head

Aroma

Marzipan with hops and a faint hint of butterscotch

Taste

Chewy malt at first with butterscotch and just as think it may get to sweet the hops come in to balance with a touch of peppercorns. The finish is surprisingly dry with light toasted grain the bitter hint of pepper hops and a bit of tangy citrus.

Overall

This is beer is a really good pint well balanced and subtle.

Mont des Cats

Today's offering is a French trappings beer brewed with the help of chimay

Appearance

Cloudy orangy chestnut with large off white head

Aroma

Orange like citrus with a good helping of peppery hops.

Taste

Malt starts but is reigned in first by orange acidity and building earthy hops. The finish is long with peppery hops and earthy hops with grain likemalt and still the citrus.

Overall

I think this beer will age well, a good beer but just missing the complexity of other trappists.

Biscuit malt touch of earthy hops

Taste

Slighty sweet malt balanced by earth hops. The finish is slightly bitter and moreish.

Overall

As it aims to be a great traditional English ale. A proper pint.

Beowulf Dragon Smoke Stout

Apperance

Dark brown or black with fast disappearing light brown cream head

Aroma

Peat smoke and treacle with a touch of sultarnas

Taste

Dark roasted grain with a bitterness tempered with a touch of vinous fruits and a slight metallic taste, think stilton and a touch of lambic wet hay. The finish is sneaky the taste fade and you think no finish and then it grows with Smokey bitterness.

Overall

Think I over chilled this one, and not the weather for this beer but this is a nice stout.

Very disappointed with this just lacks taste

Salopian Shropshire Gold

Apperance

Pale gold with white head

Aroma

Elderflower and lychee with a good backing of grain and malt.

Taste

Peppery hops soon give way to bitter hops and tea finally some fruitless comes in to the background. The finish is mouth dryingly bitter with a strong tea flavour but strangely moreish.

Overall

Not what I was expecting but very moreish

Light slighty cloudy gold with fastfood disappearing head.

Aroma

Biscuit malt and touch of elderflower

Taste

Start bitter then a honey like sweatness comes across to balance. The finish is honey sweetness with a nice balance of bitterness.

Overall

Lovely pint smooth
